Enjoy The Day My Socks Ran Away, a funny poem for kids packed with runaway socks, silly surprises and one very cheeky shoe.

🧦 The Poem

My socks jumped out of bed one day,
And shouted, “Come on! Let’s run away!”

They bounced across my bedroom floor,
Then raced right through the open door.

One wore a hat, one wore a bow,
One yelled, “Catch us if you can—GO!”

They ran downstairs, they chased the cat,
One even jumped on Daddy’s hat!

They slipped and slid across the hall,
Then bumped into the kitchen wall.

“Hop, hop, hop!” the red sock cried,
“Run, run, run!” the blue replied.

They danced on chairs, they spun around,
Then rolled like balls along the ground.

One sock hid inside a shoe,
The other shouted, “Peek-a-boo!”

I chased them past the garden gate,
But those two socks were much too great!

At last they stopped beside my bed,
“We’re tired now,” the two socks said.

I put them safely in their drawer,
Then heard a giggle on the floor…

I looked around—oh, what a shock!
My shoe was chasing BOTH my socks! 👟🧦💨😂

Read it aloud with silly voices for the socks and make the final line extra dramatic!

🌟 Why Kids Enjoy This Funny Poem

This funny poem for kids turns an everyday object into a silly character. Children know what socks are, so imagining them running, shouting and hiding feels instantly funny. The repeated action words—jumped, bounced, raced, slid, danced and rolled—keep the poem moving quickly. The simple rhymes also help young readers guess what might come next, which makes reading aloud feel like a game instead of a lesson.

🎭 Try a Silly Read-Aloud

Give each sock a different voice. Make the red sock loud and brave, and make the blue sock fast and giggly. When you reach “Hop, hop, hop!” bounce your hands in the air. For “Run, run, run!” tap your knees quickly. On the final line, point dramatically toward the floor and shout the surprise together. Acting out the poem helps children connect words with movement, expression and imagination.

🎨 Make Your Own Runaway Sock

Draw one giant sock on paper and turn it into a funny character. Add eyes, a mouth, shoes, a hat or even a superhero cape. Give your sock a silly name and decide where it would run if it escaped from the drawer. Would it hide in the fridge, jump into the toy box or ride on the family dog? Children can tell the idea aloud or write one new rhyming line about their sock.

🧠 Talk About the Poem

Ask which part was funniest, which sock seemed the cheekiest and what the child should do if the socks escape again. Can your child remember the places the socks ran through? Try putting the events in order: bedroom, door, stairs, hall, garden gate and back to bed. These simple questions encourage memory, sequencing and speaking skills while keeping the activity playful.

🧦 If your socks start giggling tonight… keep an eye on your shoes! 👟😂
