Story

Benny the Bunny loved carrots more than anything in the meadow.

Big carrots. Tiny carrots. Crunchy carrots. Even the funny crooked ones that looked like they had tried to dance out of the ground.

One sunny morning, Benny hopped past the garden gate and saw a bright orange carrot lying near the flowers.

It was perfect.

Round at the top, pointy at the end, and shiny with little drops of morning dew.

“Oh!” Benny said, leaning closer. “A perfect carrot.”

He looked left. He looked right. No one was nearby.

So Benny picked it up.

Just then, his friend Mia Mouse came running down the path. Her whiskers wiggled with worry.

“Benny, have you seen my carrot?” she asked. “I saved it for my lunch.”

Benny’s ears stood straight up.

Uh-oh.

He looked at the carrot in his paws. It was Mia’s carrot. Of course it was. But for one tiny second, Benny wished it wasn’t.

“I found it near the gate,” Benny said softly.

Mia looked at him. Benny looked at the ground.

Here’s the thing — Benny could have pretended he didn’t know. He could have hidden the carrot behind his back. He could have said, “Nope, never saw it.”

But his mother always told him something important: “A kind heart tells the truth.”

Benny took a deep breath.

“I picked it up because I thought it was lost,” he said. “But I should have asked first. I’m sorry, Mia.”

Mia smiled. Not a huge smile. A small, honest one.

“Thank you for telling me the truth,” she said. “Would you like to share it with me?”

Benny blinked. “Really?”

“Really,” Mia said. “Friends can share lunch. Especially when they tell the truth.”

So they sat under a daisy, broke the carrot into two crunchy pieces, and ate together.

And Benny learned something he remembered for a long time.

Honesty does not make a mistake disappear.

But it can turn a worried moment into a beautiful friendship moment.
